Care and Respect
Lowering fuel consumption, reducing emissions and contributing to ecological sustainability are goals that can be traced back to Volvo's Scandinavian-born respect for nature.
Striving to minimize the environmental impact of its vehicles and operations, in March 2003 Volvo Cars became one of the first automobile manufacturers in the world to be certified according to the international environmental standard, ISO 14001.
In the earliest development stages of a new model, designers and engineers are guided by Volvo's Environmental Priorities system, which quantifies the environmental effects of any given material. Components are chosen on the basis of their recyclability, and the company relentlessly looks to reduce the impact a vehicle has on the environment.
